New Year Weekend Scape, Ticino (Lockdown version)

Like the rest of the world our lives have changed and many of us have found ways to stay sane, healthy, and grateful for all we have despite all the chaos of Covid-19 . In Switzerland, my home, more restrictions were implemented before the holiday. This means many will not be with their families for the holidays this year. Despite our travel limitations due to the lockdown we found ways to stay positive, and focus on the small things that truly matter in life. For the New year weekend we booked a lovely AirB&B in Lugano which did not disappoint. We went food shopping to our local supermarket and made sure we stacked up our refrigerator for the next few days. On arrival at our little flat, we settled in and enjoyed a beautiful lunch and wine al fresco with this stunning view.

Due to the lockdown restriction at the moment some restaurants can only provide take away services. We were lucky and were able to order take away from SushiZen and enjoyed it with this fresh ABEL Riesling wine from Rheingau, Germany.

New Year Day Brunch for Two

Big New Year’s Eve parties were never my thing so this year it did not feel any different. A bathrobe dinner followed by a bottle of champagne, and if I manage to stay awake until midnight for sure a few more cheers and called the night. Instead, I prefer to welcome the New Year fresh and well rested, followed by an easy cook up seafood brunch and that is exactly what we did. I prepared some delicious grilled carabineros aglio e olio (garlic and olive oil) large blinis added a little horseradish and threw in smoked salmon, dill , salmon roe and chili eggs for a little kick, and for us that was just beautiful. Happy 2021 to you all!!!
